Jerks, morons, flakes – let’s face it: PEOPLE SUCK. This hilarious and all-too-relatable musical theatre song-cycle explores the many, many ways in which humans are just the worst. You’ll wish for your optimism back! After two hit productions in Melbourne, Australia, the 2015 Best of Fringe and Ed Mirvish Award winner is coming home to Toronto!
No one is safe from People Suck-ing! The show mercylessley skewers frenemies, bigots, people who can’t spell the word “mercilessly”, and, in the end, YOU! People Suck is the musical that dares ask the question: WT*A*F is wrong with humanity?!?
About the Creators
PETER CAVELL is a composer/lyricist, pianist, writer, and occasional thereminist. After earning degrees in classical composition at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Victoria, Peter turned to the dark side, working as Musical Director at the Second City Training Centre of Toronto for ten years. His cheeky plays and saucy compositions have been performed in Canada, the US, England, Holland, Bosnia, Singapore, Japan, and Australia. He is best known for writing the musicals People Suck (with Megan Phillips) and The Pirate Queen of the Stars (with Andrew Templeton), and he thinks you’re totally rocking that hat.
Comedian, writer, and performer MEGAN PHILLIPS is the best friend you didn’t even know you needed! Trained in Musical Theatre Performance at Mountview Academy in London, UK, Megan tours solo shows, standup, and sketch comedy. Fancy thingies of note: People Suck (co-written with Pete, won Ed Mirvish Award, Best of Fringe, Patron’s Pick, produced by Salty Theatre - Melbourne, AUS); NYC sketch team Get Me a F*cking Shovel, directed by thrice-Emmy-nominated Ana Breton, NYC Sketchfest pick; solo show Grease, Too!, won Patron’s Pick and Sold Out Show awards, Orlando Fringe Festival 2024. Megan really, really, REALLY loves wombats.
